The final accessory in the gentleman’s wardrobe is the walking stick. Given that a gentleman, possibly of a certain age, was likely to always have a walking stick, various additions that increased utility found their home on the stick.
The stick of the rich, powerful gentleman who may be prone to attackers was used to conceal a short defensive sword. This is called the gupti in Hindi, possibly from the word for “secret”. 
However, the biggest attack that the users of the walking stick of the 21st century face in their adventures in malls and high streets is the attack of aches and pains. Their best defense today is the… WAIT FOR IT… walking stick CHAIR.
I am entranced by the vision of standing in line for entry to a concert (which I will have to start going to only to perform the following trick), only to pull out the chair from my walking stick to literally cool my heels, as envious onlookers fume in frustrated fury. So much so that I am considering starting to use a walking stick just for the chair!
